About us
We at Scratch Wood Honey keep our bees on the edge of the Surrey Hills. The hives, set on rare chalk downland, are surrounded by wildflowers and trees. A flourishing lavender farm is also nearby, within the bees’ foraging range. Scratch Wood is one of two ancient woodlands nearby.

Our Beehive Locations
Our hives are based at two peaceful spots near our home in Woodmansterne Village, between Banstead and Chipstead. The area lies in South London’s green belt, with open fields, hedgerows and ancient woodland nearby.

The Honey Story
Scratch Wood Honey takes its name from a nearby ancient woodland. Our hives are cared for by me, Zak Terziyski, along with my partner Teodora and our two children. It’s a family effort, especially when harvest time comes around.
From Hive to Heart
Most people don’t realise that beekeeping is actually quite labour intensive and time consuming, however beekeeping is also very therapeutical after a busy week working in Central London. You can call it hobby plus as we are already semi commercial bee farm and keep growing.
Our objectives are to teach our children to respect the Mother Nature and that as a family we stand together in good and bad times. We value the quality of our produce over quantity. Each batch of local honey produced by our hard working honey bees is carefully handled and is natural as it can be. Straight from the hive. Once extracted the honey is only strained not thermally treated. All of machinery is made of high quality food grade stainless steel.

The Art and Science of Beekeeping
Our produce consists mainly of honey and bee wax candles. We also collect propolis and small amount of local pollen not to put unnecessary strain on local pollinators.
Occasionally royal jelly is available but this is something we need work on to provide consistency. Nevertheless, we are keen to explore further as we value the benefits of this particular product. People say beekeeping is half art and half science, we have so much more to learn.
